Emerald Zing

Emerald Zing - Refreshing peppermint leaves & delicious fennel seed undertones. Harmonizing & balancing.

Our founder and Medical Herbalist, Cath Minter, chats about Emerald Zing and the health benefits of peppermint tea.

This was one of the final teas added to the original Tea Lady range. It was a simple blend I used to blend together at home for myself as an all day / every day tonic, and one of my friend's mother loved it and bought it from me by the kilo, she loved it so much. I think it became very popular on account of two things – The quality of the peppermint was significantly mind blowing as to stop people in their tracks and want to know more about the tea, and secondly the addition of the fennel seed, both ground and whole was a unique twist – adding a sweet, aromatic pungency that just became an iconic flavour combination for the tea. Such a simple blend, really, but with Tea Lady's attention to the details of high quality ingredients and expert blending and milling, an alchemy occurred and a delicious, easy-drinking, aromatic beauty was created.

Fennel is reported to have many positive benefits on pancreas function, acting as a tonic to the gland by stimulating enzyme production. In a clinical setting, herbalists use fennel as an adjunct treatment for hypoglycemia and borderline Type 2 diabetes, along with diet and lifestyle management. Fennel is also a soothing carminative, clearing bloating and improving digestion and assimilation of nutrients.

Further, fennel can help to ease sugar cravings and binge eating, probably through its insulin metabolism support, which makes it a great cuppa for all day drinking.

Peppermint is a classic menthol-rich herb which has calming and tonifying effects on the gut and digestion. Wikipedia quotes two studies that illustrate peppermints’ outstanding soothing action on Irritable Bowel Syndrome:

In 2007, Italian investigators reported that 75% of the patients in their study who took peppermint oil capsules for four weeks had a major reduction in irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) symptoms, compared with just 38% of those who took a placebo.[19] A second study in 2010, conducted in Iran, found similar results.[20]

Emerald Zing is a refreshing, clarifying digestive tea, which may help to curb sugar cravings.

Check with your health professional before using herbal medicines.

Note: Not suitable in pregnancy as the fennel is a uterine stimulant.
